Minimally invasive surgery

The board-certified colorectal surgeons at Novant Health Colon and Rectal Clinic regularly perform minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery procedures often using the da Vinci Surgical System. This is one of the most state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical tools available. It involves the use of robotic instruments to perform both simple and complicated procedures with only minimal incisions.

In the field of colorectal surgery, the da Vinci System is used to treat everything from colon cancer to inflammatory bowel disease to diverticulitis. For more information about da Vinci surgery for colorectal procedures, click here.

Minimally invasive surgery involves smaller incisions and smaller instruments than those used in traditional surgery. This can result in shorter recovery times and less risk of infection. Minimally invasive surgery is not suitable to treat every type of colorectal concern. If minimally invasive surgery is an option for you, your provider will discuss this with you before deciding on a surgical plan.
